Tips to Plan Your Legislative Meeting

CYSA Chapters are encouraged to hold annual legislative meetings prior to the beginning of each Legislative Session.

In even number years, i.e. 2024, the Legislature meets from February to May (“Short Session”). In odd number years, i.e. 2025, the Legislature meets from January to June (“Long Session”).

Important Tips:

  • Determine the date of your meeting at your December Chapter Meeting.
  • Meetings should occur in January or early February.
  • Send invitations to Legislators and invited guests including CYSA’s Executive Director, Lobbyist, and Youth Justice Consultant as soon as the date has been set (see sample invitation below).
  • Review CYSA’s 2025 Legislative Initiatives and include in your meeting agenda.
  • Meet with your Chapter to establish the agenda and plan the breakfast (see sample agenda below).
