Susan Rubino, Member at Large

Susan Rubino is Coordinator for the Town of Hamden Youth Services Bureau. She started working for HYSB in 1993 as the Director of Preschool and School Age Child Care Programs. Since 2006, she has served as the Coordinator. Susan is passionate about youth opportunities, mental health and equity. HYSB has been a true hub in the community. A full array of programming is offered including: a year-round Work and Learn Program, a Teen Drop in Center, a Youth Diversion Project, Mental Health and Public Art Initiatives, Scholarships, School Supplies Closet and much more. HYSB flexes to meet the needs of our youth and families perpetually. Susan has an AAS in Fashion Buying and Merchandising from FIT, a BA in Communications from CCSU, Certification in Elementary Education and significant graduate coursework completed. She Co-Chairs the Hamden-North Haven Collaborative (part of the CT Statewide System of Care) and the Hamden Youth Network (HYSB Advisory Council and Hamden Prevention Council). She is Chairperson for PCYC (representing the South Central Regional Youth Service Bureaus) and sits on numerous committees including School Based Health Care Center and Youth Diversion Project Advisory Boards. She has served as a Board Member of CYSA since 2023 and in the past has served as a Chapter Representative. She has volunteered as a Board Member for the non-profits Partnerships in Learning and Creative Exploration from 2007-13 and Elijah’s Garden of Healing from 2023 to the present. She has been the President of UPSEU Local 424 Unit 23 Town of Hamden Supervisors Union from 2018 to the present, Vice President from 2014-2018 and Secretary 2012-14. Susan is a proud mom to two adult children, James and Tessa. She lives in Hamden with her significant other, Matt, her daughter Tessa, her rescue pup Ty and a hairless Guinea Pig, Parsnip. In her free time Susan loves to travel, attend concerts, cook and bake, garden, shop and express herself through art.
