This in-person immersive four-day training is designed for Youth Diversion Team faciliators and case managers looking to deepen their understanding of trauma-informed restorative justice within the diversion process. Participants will explore the philosophy, principles, and practical application of restorative justice to support more positive outcomes for youth with arrestable offenses. Based on the NEW Policy and Procedures Manual for Youth Diversion Teams, this training will incorporate group discussions, hands-on exercises, role plays, and videos. Training is limited to 25 participants.

Eligibility:

What to Expect:

Day 1: This is a foundational exploration of restorative justice through a trauma-informed lens, with a deep dive into adolescent brain development and behavior. We will expand our understanding of restorative sequence and use the circle process to build, maintain, and repair relationships in community settings.

Days 2 & 3: Hands-on skill-building in key areas, including case eligibility, conducting intakes, case development, facilitating restorative meetings with families, engaging with victims, and crafting meaningful agreements that repair harm while empowering youth to make positive changes.

Day 4: Focused on troubleshooting, role-playing case scenarios, and managing logistical challenges, the last day, we hope to wrap up by learning from each other and the cases we have lived experience in seeing better outcomes from in our work. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, participants will leave with the tools and confidence to implement restorative justice practices that foster accountability, healing, and growth into their diversion work.
