Position: Sidekicks Program Coordinator (Temporary, Part-Time)
$28/hour | 6 hours/week | May 1 – September 1, 2025

The Town of Suffield is proud of its New England charm, historic character, and strong commitment to community. We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and community-minded individual to lead the launch of Suffield Sidekicks—a brand new intergenerational initiative connecting local teens with senior residents in need of help with household and yard chores.

About the Program:
Suffield Sidekicks is designed to benefit both teenagers and seniors through meaningful service and connection. Teens (ages 14–18) will assist Suffield residents aged 65 and older with everyday tasks such as raking, weeding, planting, dusting, organizing, and basic tech help. Teens will work in pairs and be paid minimum wage ($16.35/hour) for up to 2 hours per job. The work primarily takes place on weekends, with additional scheduling possible over summer break.

Both the senior residents and teens would be required to complete an application. Background checks will be required for senior participants.

About the Role:
The Sidekicks Program Coordinator will launch this initiative—developing the program infrastructure, coordinating teens, volunteers and senior participants, and promoting the program throughout the community. This is a temporary, part-time position.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, organize, and lead the launch of the Suffield Sidekicks program
• Promote the program through flyers, social media, school outreach, high school guidance counselors, and local partnerships and the youth services website
• Create and maintain a positive social medial presence to promote and market program
• Create and manage a program calendar using the BAND app and event calendar to post jobs for teens to schedule home visits on weekends.
• Work with Suffield Community Aid to launch the program; contact residents via phone to coordinate schedule
• Maintain teen and senior records, including initial agreements, working papers for teens and background checks on seniors
• Match teen volunteers with senior residents and schedule job assignments
• Develop and implement the application and onboarding processes for both teens and seniors
• Communicate expectations with teens via Zoom, FaceTime or in person orientation sessions
• Collaborate with key partners such as the Senior Center, Suffield Community Aid, and school personnel
• Track participation and gather feedback for program evaluation
• Provide and share data on the program launch
• Prepare a procedural manual for future operation of the program
• Maintain a positive, customer-focused relationship with all participants

Qualifications

Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or current college junior/senior preferred, ideally with a focus on youth and family services, human services, or related field
• Relevant experience may substitute for formal education with approval by the Social Services Chair.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Prior experience in program coordination, youth engagement, or municipal government is a plus
• Experience supervising adolescents is preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to build rapport with teens, seniors, and community stakeholders
• Self-starter who can work independently and manage time effectively
• Empathy, flexibility, and a strong sense of community mission
• Familiarity with standard office tech and basic social media tools

Additional Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license
• Occasional local travel (e.g., school visits, community meetings)

Compensation & Schedule:
• $28.00/hour
• 6 hours/week from May 1 – September 1, 2025
• Remote/hybrid work environment

Tools and Equipment Used:
• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers and photocopiers.
