School Avoidance: Pathways to Change

Overview:
This in-person training on school avoidance is a complex problem impacting academics, social functioning, and home life. This presentation will focus on building an understanding of the maintaining factors behind school avoidance and the impact it has on students and families. Participants will be provided with strategies to help both families and schools improve attendance. In addition, there will be a focus on learning how to engage the school avoidant student and how to enhance their motivation to attend.
A second session will be offered in the fall that will focus on case consultation. Participants will be offered the opportunity to bring case examples to the group for an open discussion. The aim of this workshop is to validate impactful practices already in use and to help develop new skills to empower students and families.
